A return to Lake of the Ozarks will always bring nostalgia to the powerboat racing world especially when Steve Curtis is competing. Undeniably one of the biggest achievements in the sports history so far took place in 2014 right here at the site of this weekends race venue.

Curtis and Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani set the bar 5 years ago for the LOTO Shootout Speed Record reaching speeds of 244 mph in the Al Adaa’am 96 50ft Mystic Powerboat. This will be one of those legendary moments in time that will live on for generations to come in this sport.

By any measure, this was an incredible feat which will probably never be beaten in our lifetimes. Although this weekend isn’t going to be a Speed Record, Steve no doubt has his sights on attaining the highest speed times possible during this OPA second race of the season. He will be throttling the Miss Geico boat alongside driver James Sheppard and directed by Crew Chief – Gary Stray, from inside the Geico support boat.

The playground is far from offshore this weekend with flat calm waters making the Geico race boat set up a lot different to typical races. “We are running different props this weekend to suit the conditions. Racing on flat water isn’t really my thing, I like it rough! But you’ve got little option when racing on a lake, which is why adjustments have been made to our balance and steering as well”, said Steve.

This year’s race which features a new course in a new location is happening for the seventh time this year on the famed Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri. You can watch Steve race live at https://www.facebook.com/laketv tomorrow June 1st.
